It looks as though Apple has resorted to old tricks to sell new products. Before anyone gets overly concerned, they are doing so in order to raise funds to fight the ongoing AIDS epidemic in Africa through the Global Fund Initiative.
As a means for raising money, Apple will be selling limited edition RED iPhone7s and iPhones7 Pluses. On the inside, the products will be essentially unchanged. As for the exterior, the smart phones will be incased in a vibrant red aluminum material that is both attractive and and durable. The new phones were scheduled to arrive in stores throughout the world on March 24 and sell for $749.00.
Throughout the years, Apple has often chosen to use its RED products to celebrate special events or show support for special causes.
According to Apple CEO Tim Cook, “Since we began working with (RED) 10 years ago, our customers have made a significant impact in fighting the spread of AIDS through the purchase of our products, from the original iPod nano (PRODUCT)RED Special Edition all the way to today’s lineup of Beats products and accessories for iPhone, iPad and Apple Watch. The introduction of this special edition iPhone in a gorgeous red finish is our biggest (PRODUCT)RED offering to date in celebration of our partnership with (RED), and we can’t wait to get it into customers’ hands.”
For RED CEO Deborah Dugan came this quote: “Apple is the world’s largest corporate donor to the Global Fund, contributing more than $130 million as part of its partnership with (RED). Combining the global reach of the world’s most loved smartphone with our efforts to provide access to life-saving ARV medication in sub-Saharan Africa, customers now have a remarkable opportunity to make a difference and contribute to the Global Fund through the purchase of this new beautiful (PRODUCT)RED iPhone.”
