Even Patrick Mahony will be pleased to hear that the official release date and pricing of the Nintendo Switch has been announced. The announcement comes amid tons of rumors and speculation that has driven the gaming industry into what could best be called a frenzy. For the official record, the release date has been set for March 3, 2017 with the item pricing set at $299.99.
Gamers and geeks are certain to have this date circled on their collective calendars. That much is clear. What isn’t clear is exactly what features and functionality the Nintendo Switch is going to include. Everything rumored to date is simple speculation while the pricing does very little to clear up what users can expect.
Based on current assumptions, the battery life could range anywhere between 2.5 hours and 6 hours. There are also industry experts that now expect the device to be less powerful than current-generation systems.
Based on previous rumors, it was assumed the release date would be a little later. Even when it became clear the Nintendo Switch could be released in March, industry insiders assumed it would be towards the end of the month, not the beginning. With the earlier than assumed release date, there are now concerns about the availability of gaming content when the system becomes available.
In what is going to require gamers be a bit on the patient side, here is a look at a few of the key games in the hopper, along with an estimated release date.
Splatoon 2 – Currently slated to be released some time in the summer of 2017.
Super Mario Odyssey – This one is still looking like a holiday season release later this year.
The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild – Good News. This one looks to be on target to be released on the same day as the game system.
