From COMDEX to Comic Con, geeks love to migrate towards technology conventions where like-minded individuals gather to share the latest and greatest advancements in technology. For those rare occasions when a geek is willing to take their hands off the ole laptop or gaming device long enough for a little vacation, here are a few of the European technology industry conventions scheduled in the coming months.
Paris Games Week
Paris is more than a romantic vacation destination. For each of the past six years, the Syndicat des éditeurs de logiciels de loisirs (or SELL for short) has organized and sponsored Paris Games Week. The event focuses on exhibitions and gaming presentations by some of the world’s largest gaming software developers. This October, industry giants like Nintendo, XBox, Warner Brothers and SEGA are expected to be in attendance with its latest product lines.
Lucca Comics & Games (Tuscany)
With a rich tradition that spans 51 years, the Lucca Comics and Games Conference is one of the key geek conventions on the European calendar each year. Originally organized to promote comic books, the convention’s organizers began including gaming enthusiasts in 2002. Each year, 250,000 geeks convene to read comics, play video games and compete in spirited gaming tournaments.
Over the past few years, DreamHack has become so popular among computer and gaming enthusiasts that the convention is now schedule over multiple days, two times a year. This November, more that 50,000 participants are expected to be on hand to showcase over 20,000 technology devices and video games. Spectators will be permitted to play games and enjoy a wide range of eSports events to be held in one of the convention’s dedicated halls. The convention is schedule to last four days, starting on November 24, 2016.
